Antonio Yarbough was released from prison this year after DNA evidence cleared his name for a triple murder. The victims were his mother and two cousins.
Yarbough’s friend lied to detectives which led to his false accusation and wrongful conviction.
A new DNA evidence analysis technique is making it easier for police to be sure they have the right perp. Scientists can learn about the individuals face, skin color, hair color, and hand and foot shape. This new technique will be most helpful during the investigation phase of a crime, and scientists are hopeful that it will lead to fewer wrongful convictions because police will have a better profile of the suspect they are looking for.
This technique diminishes the need to rely on witness testimony, which is often incorrect, and circumstantial evidence.
Psychologists say it is difficult for anyone wrongfully convicted to recover and live a normal life. In Yarbough’s case he lost his 30s completely and is having trouble finding a job and getting back into the rhythm of his old life.
