I knew I wanted to move back to the city. I didn’t know what I was going to do but that was where I was going to do it.
I may meet people on the train, at a restaurant because after a while you kind of just can look at somebody and see if they like to go out.
I never thought I would be a promoter.
I grew up very poor in a very poor part of New York with my brothers and a single parent home with my mom.
There wasn’t always something to eat, I think myself and people I went to school with and people around my neighborhood, we were violent, we were desperate and there was not too much to hold onto.
My mom decided to move us out to Long Island. I kind of fell in love with all sorts of music out there.
When I had seen all those different things that I’d never seen before, I just wanted to change as a person and I knew I could just do anything that I wanted to do.
Promoting it might not be forever but it’s definitely taken me into what I want, into entertainment.
No one gets to pick where they grow up. I grew up somewhere where there’s a lot of negativity and poverty but just being picked up in their environment and being placed in another environment made all the difference.

I worked on this with Heather Martino who had met Apollo apparently in the Meatpacking District some time ago. We initially wanted to learn a lot about how Meatpacking changed but were swept by Apollo’s story and even followed him to his childhood apartment building’s rooftop in the South Bronx.
